System Requirements
Any Macintosh with a least System 7 and Internet Config v1.1 installed. If you don't have IC, don't waste another minute and get it from your favourite Info-Mac mirror!
What does it do?
Drag files onto the professionally designed icon (eh?) and they will be opened, based on their file extension, in the application that you have given this extension to in Internet Config. It does not matter what the Macintosh file type and creator are, they will still be opened in the application set in IC. If an application is set as post processor in IC, it will be opened with that one, if you haven't set a post-processor, it will be opened in the application that is assigned to be the creator for the extension. For example, in my case, all .c files will opened in the CodeWarrior IDE, all .image files are mounted by ShrinkWrap, all .html files are opened in Netscape (but by double clicking they open in my text editor!), all .hqx files are decoded by my own application (to be released some day), .uu is processed by StUU, .gz and .Z by MacGzip, .sit and .cpt by StuffIt Expander™ and .tar by suntar.
As of this version, if you hold the option key on your keyboard, the type and creator will be changed to whatever is in IC.
If you don't have Internet Config, it will still work but it will act as if you double clicked a file, sometimes resulting in a file not found. So, it would be pretty useless without IC...
Why?
This application reduces desktop clutter, instead of having all the aforementioned application aliases
on your desktop, you can only have this one for most purposes. Quick tip here: forget about all those launch bar applications and use a thing called PetitIcon (nice About Box!) to create small icons and place these on your desktop. They are always available and take no memory at all. Then also get a thing called SnapShotter to take a snapshot of your desktop to easily recreate it in case you do a Clean Up All by accident.
Other comments
This application is free and comes without any warranties. If you do experience problems, first read the documentation that comes with Internet Config and make sure you have set everything right there. If you have a file that opens when an assigned application is already open and active but won't open when you drag the file onto ICFileDiverter, try rebuilding the desktop. After having done all that, you can send me email and if I think it is a real problem, I will try to help you fix it.
Version History
1.0 Initial release.
1.1 By special request, if you hold down the option key when dragging files, the type and creator of those files will be changed. For a dedicated application that does only that, check out ICTypeChanger, probably available at the same place where you got this one.
